Upon arrival, every horse that enters the USA is subject to blood tests before it is transported to the USDA import quarantine (max. 3 days)
The blood is tested for the following diseases:
  • Equine piroplasmosis (C-Elisa test)
  • Equine Infectious Anaemia (Coggins test)
  • Glanders
  • Dourine
If any of these tests have a positive result the horse will be sent back to its country of origin.
 
Therefore, all horses shipped to the USA with Pedens are pre-tested for these four diseases prior to departure.
Import regulations USA:
The horses must not be vaccinated within 14 days before loading.

Stallions and mares that are older than 731 days (2 years) additionally need to be tested negatively for C.E.M. (Contagious equine metritis - contagious venereal disease of the horse) within 30 days of the export date.

Swab samples for mares: Clitoral fossa and clitoral sinus’

Swab samples for stallions: Fossa glandis, uretha and prepuce.
